How to personalise your wedding design so your wedding venue aesthetics look & feel like you

In this blog post I will be sharing creative ideas on how to personalise your design so that your guests walk in your venue and say 'oh yes, this is so them' and you can feel one hundred percent comfortable in your surroundings. If this sounds like what you want your wedding design to be like, keep reading as there's lots of juicy insights coming up...
Personalised details are more than couples initials and wedding dates
I am sure you know this already, but let's just address this minor detail so it's out of the way! Personalising your wedding design goes far beyond adding your names, initials and your wedding date to your decor & stationery pieces. There I said it! While these are lovely additions and there's certainly a place for them throughout your design, I'm afraid this is just surface level stuff! So you're going to need to zoom in closer than that!

Why is connecting your wedding decor & stationery to your wedding design so important
I'm sure you've attended a few weddings now and you've been making a mental list in your head of what to do and more importantly what not to do for your own wedding day. I'm sure you have even made comments to each other on how their wedding day was 'nice' but without sounding too harsh, it could of been anyone's wedding day, right?
Unfortunately, I still see lots of couples still making the same mistake over & over again, which is making their wedding design too generic, meaning they seriously lack the couples love story, their personalities, their interests and they don't have any meaning behind their design choices. There was no spotlight on any of this. It just looked nice! The only clues you had that you were at the right wedding, was because the couples names were on the welcome sign! Yikes!
Luckily for you, this is my speciality as a stylist and a stationer. The couples who I love helping, to bring their wedding vision to life, are the couples who really care about expressing themselves through the visuals. They really want their guests to get a real sense of who they are as people and what they really care about. Openly sharing their journey together, personal quirks and all, to allow their guests to feel part of their story. The couples I tend to work with are really thoughtful, putting their guests experience at the top of their priority list, which is why they are super keen to create a design full of personal touches, which captures everything they are about.
How to personalise your wedding design so it looks & feels like you
The first step to creating a design that looks & feels like you both, starts with making a list of all the things you love to do together in your free time and what your shared interests are. Once you know what they are, you have all the information you need to start weaving them into your design features. These are the things that will help you choose a colour palette, what style of decorations to have and what kind of stationery you want, that ties everything perfectly together. It's honestly the key ingredient to a great foundation, skip this part out and you will end up with a wedding design that looks like everyone else's. I believe no wedding design should look the same, as every couple is so different. I am really good at getting the information I need out of my couples so that I have enough inspiration to play with when designing for them. What I will say is, the more you include of yourselves, the more personal your design will feel and the more unique it will be. The trick is knowing how to do it, and how to do it well! How to personalise your wedding colour scheme
Choosing a colour scheme is usually led by a favourite colour you love or determined by the time of year you're tying the knot. I would seriously advise remembering to take into consideration at this stage, how you want your atmosphere to feel when you enter your venue, as the colour scheme is going to set the tone immediately, it really does have that power! For example, soft pastel shades will provide you with a calm vibe while earthy colours will provide a warm and cosy atmosphere. So choose colours and shades that reflect who you are and you will feel instantly comfortable and relaxed in the space you create. If you're struggling to know where to start with this, as you maybe don't have an immediate response to any colours, think about your home interior. How you have decorated your home is a really good clue of what you are naturally drawn to. Or if fashion is more your thing, what colours do you usually choose to wear? Your wardrobe could be holding all the answers! So think about what makes you feel confident and your best self and bring that into your design features. Because when you feel yourselves, you will have a better time for sure on the day. Result!!

Create your wedding vision with a mood board
When couples start planning how they want their wedding venue to look, it's all too obvious to start your search on Pinterest, because that's where you'll find an abundance of inspirational wedding images to help you start building your vision. The problem with this is that you'll be highly influenced by wedding images you see, leading you down a generic design path. My advice is to start your search off line first, using yourselves as the inspiration. Take some time to really hone in on what you are all about and then you can look for images that represent this. They don't have to be wedding related at all, in fact it's better if there not, because existing wedding images are from someone else day, and you don't want to copy another couple. You want your own design. My advice is to create yourselves a mood board with images you love, that represent the overall vibe of your day. Instead of typing in the search bar on Pinterest 'wedding' what about typing in colour palettes, font styles, home interiors, hobbies & interests you love, places you have visited and using this to inspire you instead. This is what I do with my couples. I research their interests and use that to help me build their wedding vision from scratch.

How to personalise your wedding decor
Choosing decor is no easy task for any couple with an endless sea of options at your finger tips, in fact for most couples it's as stressful as it gets! But the minute you start connecting your decor choices to your personalities, your interests and your love story, this will soon fade away and it will all become clear & easier. And as a bonus feature of doing this, you'll be even more excited! Linking your decorations to yourselves is tricky, that's why couples ask me for help, but all you are doing is choosing pieces that reflect your personal tastes. When I help my couples, the decor I suggest always has a purpose of being there, it's not just selected at random, god forbid! I have chosen it for a reason. I am choosing items that actually connect to the couple, which helps build the vision, so you need to do the same.

How to personalise your on the day stationery
Personalising your on the day stationery pieces will help tie everything into together and create a cohesive design throughout. It is another fun area where you can get creative and really express your personalities. Again when we are trying to avoid the generic wedding design you need to think outside the general box. So let's go through some examples; Let's take the much loved Welcome sign, a fabulous piece that creates a warm entrance as guests arrive. If you want generic then 'Welcome to our wedding' will fit that description. But this is your chance to add your own touch, what would you really say to your guests when they arrive? I have helped many couples create welcome signs that are full of their personalities. One of my favourite's was a Lincolnshire couple where I suggested the greeting 'Now Then' to welcome their guests, because that's what they would naturally say. When selecting wedding menus for your place settings, you could have the title 'menu' at the top, or you could have 'Let's tuck in' or 'Enjoy your grub' Whatever suits your personal style. The point I'm making, is to make it your own, there is no rule book. Add your own character and you will be well on your way to creating a more personal wedding design. On the day wedding stationery isn't just about the colours matching and the style complimenting the decor, it's about the wording too, which is what will add personality. I love helping couples do this inside my bespoke stationery design service. It's a great way to make your stationery pieces personal to you as they'll be tailored to suit what your vision is all about. This makes choosing stationery a much more exciting part of wedding planning as each piece can be blended into the design so everything ties in together seamlessly. And to be honest it will make it feel fresh & exciting, it won't be just another wedding sign or another menu card that you're guests have seen many times before.

How to personalise your wedding seating plan
Table plan design for your wedding reception can often stump a lot of couples. The bar has been raised when it comes to creativity with so many inspiring seating chart ideas on Pinterest alone, providing guests with a unique experience to finding their seat. But how do you create a table plan display that is personal to you? The key is to connect the seating plan idea to yourselves & your theme. As your guests are mingling with their arrival drinks they will be eager to see where they are sitting, so they're happy to linger around the display you create, so it's important to create something eye catching and that will capture their imagination. There are lots of things you can do from switching out table numbers to table names, using something that has personal meaning behind them, to using decorations that add your interests. I have helped many couples create one of a kind table plan displays, for example I have used one of my couples love of food to create bespoke wooden chopping boards which creatively weaved this in. This is why I have a collection of individual table plan card designs which allows couples to get really creative with how they display them. They can be inserted in frames, hung with ribbon or placed in holders to create a personalised seating plan to build on your own idea.

When your wedding design is full of personal touches that connect to you both, you will feel more excited to see your ideas & vision come to life
I hope you have enjoyed reading this blog post. I think one of the key take aways from these ideas I've shared is that, when you personalise your wedding design, you will naturally become more excited to see all the ideas come to life. And the reason for this is because all the design choices have meaning behind them. This is why I think most couples don't really have an enjoyable planning experience, because they haven't got enough of themselves included. If they don't express what they are all about through the design aesthetics then know wonder they feel a little disappointed afterwards. I want my couples guests to say 'this is so them' and I want my couples to feel 100 percent comfortable as they celebrate their marriage. This is what I am aiming for in everything I create for my couples, because that's the highest compliment I think you can receive in my eyes.
