When the venue co-ordinator Gina, asked me to style the tipis for their upcoming wedding open day at Scrivelsby Walled Garden, for Autumn 2024, I literally jumped at the chance. Not only is the venue local to me, it's an absolute stunning location to have a wedding. I will always have a soft spot for a tipi as this was my very own choice for a wedding venue. As with all open day prep, I set myself a design brief to work towards. I chose a colour palette that created a warm welcome for the couples arriving, and nature inspired decor that complimented the time of year.
Colour Palette
I used a mixture of sage green and soft brown colours to mirror the canvas, and I brought the outside in with my choice of dried flowers & grasses and delicate dusty mauve touches. This kept it very natural and create a relaxed, cosy vibe. I named my design 'Wild Garden' as I knew I wanted to create a wild organic look with my design features. I created my mood board as you can see below, and then got to work on bringing all the design elements together.
New Decor
Wedding open days are always a great opportunity to share fresh ideas to excited couples, so I was very excited to showcase some new decor to my prop collection, including a handmade metal display frame for fun fabric signage, and a display stand to help style up key areas. My new forest green ribbed bottles and rustic wooden planters filled with dried grasses and lavender were the star of the show on the wooden style trestle tables.
Doorway
As couples entered the doorway, I wanted them to feel like nature was growing up and around the inside the tipis. So I created a twisted hazel twig arrangement each side of the entrance way. It was full of wild grasses, teasels and delicate hedgerow pieces perfect for the season, helping bring nature inside.
Welcome Area
My white metal frame with a linen fabric sign created the perfect statement as couples walked in, my metal stand was dressed in chiffon draping, lanterns, and a plant pot & wicker vase filled with more dried delights. Scattered leaves and pinecones finished the look.
Hanging Installation
I wanted to create a feature over the sweetheart table as this is the main dinner focal point, so I created a dried floral installation filled with complimenting wild grasses, dried hydrangeas, and fresh eucalyptus above where the table was situated.
Tablescapes
The tables were filled with lots of texture with sage green and soft brown table runners & a mixture of linen napkins. Dried grasses, poppies, sea holly, thistles, sea lavender, hydrangeas and feathers filled my vintage stoneware & glass green bottles. The combination of these colours really made the colours pop. Low tea light holders added a soft romantic glow.
Stationery
I used recycled flecked card for the menus and table numbers, with bronze foil and torn edges to add even more texture and a romantic feel. I used a script font to give an elegance to the design.
Table Plan
I got creative with the table plan and used a mixture of my vintage books, wooden drawers filled with dried moss. Wood slices and pine cones added the all important nature touches that continued through the design concept.
Ceremony Area
I styled the ceremony area with my garden trellis backdrop which is the perfect statement decor piece to this stunning walled garden, with floaty draping and a hanging seagrass lampshade. I filled the wooden planters with a mixture of dried grasses to mirror what was inside the tipis. The aisle was lined with white lanterns. The table was styled with a rustic wooden planter filled with dried flowers and decor to mirror the inside.
I was super pleased with how my 'wild garden' look came to together. It was lovely to hear all the feedback from all the couples that came to look around. It was a a great feeling to hear so many couples love nature as much as me.
