Colourful Botanical Summer Garden Tablescape Design

As I continue to experiment with the use of more colour in my work, I have another idea for a tablescape design, inspired by my cut flower garden which I've grown from seed. This design all started with some creative play, when one morning I decided to create a flower arrangement with some of the flowers from the cut flower bed and other beautiful things I have growing in my little paradise. When I was setting seeds in the spring in my greenhouse, this is the exact reality I was hoping for, during the summer months. Wandering around the garden with my snips, collecting a handful of fresh flowers to play with to inspire people, is a dream come true, and a complete and utter joy. You may notice in my flower bed I have planted a lot of pink flowers, zinnias and dahlias. I've never been a real fan of the colour pink, which I mention from time to time! So I choose these on purpose, to challenge myself to incorporate the colour when I felt like it would add something to the design, but so it still feels like my true botanical style. Lots of my brides say to me they 'don't like pink' so I know I'm not alone. If this is how you feel, this design was created for you. It's to show you how including a pop of pink with other colours can provide an interesting look thats full of character and fitting to the time of year.

The inspiration ~ My cut flower garden

Colourful flower arrangement with botanical blooms

As I mentioned above, this tablescape started with the creation of the flower centrepiece. I used a variety of delicate flowers including cosmos, zinnias, salvia, ammi, verbena and lupins along with a variety of fresh foliage. The aim was to create something colourful and fun which felt loose and unstructured, for a relaxed garden gathered look. As you can see the addition of pink added some interest to the design and lifted the darker shades of green, making it feel more summery. The colour palette was based around, olive green, purples, white, and pinks. I just love how it turned out.

Romantic table decor with laid back summer garden vibes

I have dressed the table with an olive green table runner, and added lots of crystal candle holders with colourful candles to add a romantic atmosphere. Emerald green wine goblets are placed ready for guests, with the fun addition of some lilac ribbon bows to elevate each place setting. Gold foil table numbers inserted in wood slices added to the laid back charm, but still remained elegant. The flower centrepiece remains the star in the middle, as I went heavier on candles, with a few sprigs of delicate greenery from the garden to tie everything in together. For a wedding, you could use these ideas as they are depending on your seating arrangements. This set up works well for tables of six guests. If you're having banquet style tables, you could pop flowers in clear bud vases and scatter down the long tables, weaving in between candlelight. The larger flowers arrangement could also be used in the centre of a sweetheart table or a ceremony table as a focal point. You can use these decor ideas and colours to inspire your own look, making it work for your venue and preferred taste.

Elevate your drink ware for guests

Whenever I'm designing, I think it's important to add something unexpected, that makes your guests feel welcome & connected to your event. Personalisation goes along way, so these drink tags with initials and date are the perfect addition to add some fun. They can be used for drinks on arrival at your wedding reception, for rehearsal dinners, for engagement parties or anniversaries, styled as a decorative feature on the tables or presented at the bar for guests to help themselves. You can find these circular drink tags in my shop here.

Personalised place settings that look & feel thoughtful

Each place setting was styled with a wicker charger mat, white scallop plates, sleek gold and white cutlery, and mauve linen napkins. Slim gold foil menu cards, which double up as a personalised place setting with guests names, were placed on top with a fun lilac tassel. A dried sprig of sea lavender completed the look and tied in all the colours.

The overall look of this tablescape design turned out exactly how I'd hoped. It felt fun & summery, as well as botanical and organic. And my addition of pink added some much needed contrast that provided more interest among the colour scheme I used.
