During a trip to a local food and drink fair recently I picked up a couple of acorn squashes from a local green grocery. The helpful owner not only shared how to best prepare and cook them, she informed me they are much more delicious than the big supermarket pumpkins you see, as they are breed more for decoration purposes. I couldn't wait to try them, but not before I designed a tablescape with them for autumn. Using my squashes as the starting point of my design, let me share how the table I created came together.

The Vibe

Autumn is my favourite time of year so I couldn't wait to get started with my ideas. I was going for a warm and cosy atmosphere that felt luxurious and true to the season.

The Colour Scheme

The colour palette I used to bring this scene to life was a mixture of warm terracotta, emerald green, gold, copper and warm yellow. These all worked together in harmony and felt very inviting. I also loved mixing the metallics, with gold candlesticks, gold and white cutlery and hammered copper tealight holders. The warm tones of these decor pieces made it all work together.

Flowers & Foliage

I raided my mums garden for some different foliage this time as she has an abundance of different evergreen shrubs calling out for a trim. So I headed over there armed with some snips to collect enough greenery for running along the centre of the table so all the decor could be immersed among it all. I love the variegated shrub I included as this added some nice interest against the plain greenery. Other foliage I used was fresh eucalyptus which I arranged in a rustic vase with some beautiful sunflowers. This made a stunning centrepiece and the yellow really complimented the larger squashes.

Table Decorations

Once I had my fresh greenery laid on the terracotta tablecloth and my centrepiece arranged in the middle, I added more layers with candle light. I used a mixture of warm metallic tones with gold and copper, and lit burnt orange tapered candles, which added a homely glow. I scattered my variety of pumpkins along the table and finished with my emerald green wine goblets for a luxurious feel.

Place Settings

Each place setting was dressed with a seagrass mat to add texture and I layered white plates on top to show a banquet is about to commence. I styled green linen napkins loosely with my leaf patterned bows which add the perfect finishing touch. I completed each place with these brown menu cards with a harvest style design.
