2018 Wedding Trends

Rea Shaw

A start of a brand new year, and it's time to see what is going to be the latest and upcoming trends for the exciting year ahead for 2018...
Venue
We have seen a huge change in wedding venues over the last few years now. Couples are steering away from the traditional church ceremony and hotel reception. There has been an increase in couples being more ambitious than ever seeking out for a unique and alternative setting to show off their personalities with their creativity. The rising trend is an industrial/urban feel to give your day an edgy, cool mood. Although with a blank canvas, couples can achieve any look and feel they are seeking with flowers, candles and fairy lights, to suit there theme.
Colour
Pantone's colour of the Year for 2018 is Ultra-Violet. This year is all about the drama. We are seeing an increase in darker colour palettes with metallic details. Midnight blues, burgundy and emerald greens paired with metallic gold's and copper are the perfect match to tie in with an industrial feel.

Light and polished colours giving a neutral look will remain a strong contender with white and greenery creating an elegant and simplistic style. Marble and copper elements will help make a bold statement.

Décor
When it comes to floral décor, foliage-only has become increasing popular. Bell jars, hanging hoops, table runners. The more creative the better to display them. Brides are after statement pieces but to show off in a subtle way. Brides are opting for low and long rather than the tall traditional centrepieces for their tables.

Growing strong is the trend of geometric and modern shapes. Perfect for the modern industrial feel wedding. Incorporate a stylish backdrop or simply add some candle holders to create the stylish effect.

Stationery
Couples are after something different especially when it comes to their extra details. Table plans have become the focus for 'on the day' stationery as it is the first thing guests will see to be seated. Couples are letting their imaginations run wild with ideas for unique ways to display them. Materials such as vellum, marble and glass are growing in trend to add the delicate touches to key items on the guest tables.

Favours
Favours for guests have become more thoughtful and meaningful to the couple, with personalisation being key. Quirky, novelty gifts are being replaced with handmade useful items that your guests will use or treasure.
The Dress
Floaty,  bohemian style dresses are all the rage for this year. The gorgeous elegance and intricacy of the designs ooze romance, and create a relaxed feel for the bride to be comfortable in all day long.
We are also seeing coloured details on dresses such as floral designs for the bride who wants to make more of a statement with her look.

Bridesmaids
The traditional trend of matching dresses is more relaxed these days. Brides choosing the same colour dress in different styles to suit each bridesmaid allows more freedom and choice. Making everyone feel happier and comfortable. Or if you are feeling really brave mix it up a bit and have some fun... Using your colour palette carefully select colour tones and styles to suit each maid, if done well it can look stunning. Perfect for a more relaxed day.

Make-up & Hair
Minimal make-up showing healthy, glowing skin with a hint of colour on the lips is all a bride needs to worry about this year. Keeping the hair simple with many brides with long hair opting to keep it down with soft waves to create a relaxed, dreamy look . Perfect to wow your groom.
The Cake
Marbled cakes will be very popular this year. More textured designs with foliage and metallic's  incorporated to give a whimsical yet modern look.
Dessert Tables are the thing to have, with your wedding cake as the statement piece. A wide selection of cakes, macaroons and cupcakes is enough to make any guests go up twice!
Food
The growing trend of a more relaxed wedding breakfast is not going anywhere soon. Food stations and trucks can be found in many forms for the couples who are after a more interesting way to cater for their guests. Prosecco vans, doughnut walls add the element of fun and a modern vibe.

So that rounds up the trends to look out for this year if you are getting hitched and need a few pointers to get you started. Happy planning!
